Course Content

Proficiency in Security Awareness aims to provide new entrants to the maritime industry with the knowledge and understanding they require on the security of ships and port facilities. 

The course content is developed in line with the criteria developed by Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB) and approval by the Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA).

Training is developed to meet the requirement of the international convention on standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW).

  • Know the importance of ship security and the roles of Seafarers
  • Understand the development of security codes and regulations, conventions and codes
  • Roles and responsibilities of the shop and a Port facility, as well as the Ships’ security Officer
  • Aware of the measures and processes for security and security plans
  • Understand security status, drills and exercises
  • Know how to recognise and report types of threats techniques and security measures

Examination Type

There is no final assessment, but candidates will take part in discussions and exercises throughout.

Other fees and requirements

This course also requires:

  • Passport size photo with candidate’s name on the back

Certificates will be sent directly to candidates by the  completion of the exam.
