All commercial fishermen working aboard a vessel of any size are required to hold a Sea Survival Certificate. Since November, the course has been STCW 95 endorsed and it's correct title is now Personal Survival Techniques.

All fishermen are then required to complete an MCA approved Fire Fighting and First Aid course within 3 months of completing the Sea Survival course. New Entrants should also complete the mandatory Health and Safety Course, experienced fishermen should complete the Safety Awareness course instead.

Examination type:
Continual assessment.
All trainees need to complete the exercises in the pool to gain the certificate.

Course Aim:
To provide fishermen with the knowledge and skills required to maximise their chances of survival following a vessel abandonment.

MCA Compliance:
This course has been designed and has been approved to conform to the requirements laid down by the MCA.
All our instructors have been approved by the Seafish Industry Authority.

Course Certificate:
The Seafish Industry Authority on behalf of the MCA will issue a course certificate and Seafood Cornwall Training will issue a separate STCW 95 certificate to those who complete the course successfully.
