FREE Sea Safety Training For Young People
Thursday, 14 July 2011 16:55
Two Sea Safety Training days developed by Seafood Cornwall Training are being provided free of charge thanks to the support of the Cornish Fish Producers Organisation and Falfish. These one day courses are specifically aimed at young people that currently spend their leisure time on small inshore fishing vessels or pleasure craft.

At present under 16's cannot be issued with Seafish / MCA accredited mandatory training certificates until their 16th birthday, for training in Sea Survival, Fire Prevention, 1st Aid and Health and Safety, therefore many young people from fishing and coastal communities around Cornwall may be spending time at sea without any safety training or knowledge of how to act in an emergency situation.

Each of the one day workshops scheduled to take place at Carn Brea Leisure Centre, Pool, Redruth on the 2nd & 3rd August will equip candidates with essential skills which will stand them in good stead whilst at sea or on land.

Candidates will receive a certificate of attendance from Seafood Cornwall Training upon completion on the day. Due to the current age restriction, this will not be a Seafish / MCA certificate but key elements of each of the Seafish / MCA Basic Safety Training Courses will be covered during the day.

This Autumn / Winter, Seafood Cornwall Training will be launching a new 3 Week Introduction to Fishing Course which we hope will be fully funded and accredited by Seafish. By attending this one day safety workshop, young people interested in a career at sea will be able to find out more about this new course as well as meeting other like minded individuals.
