Please find below a summary of funding available to fishermen and fish businesses in Cornwall. We aim to keep this list as accurate and up to date as possible and will add new sources of funding as they become available or as soon as we are advised.



New Work Cornwall

The goal of the New Work Cornwall project is to enhance the skills of people so that they can achieve better paid jobs that are relevant to the 21st Century economy and society. If you are uncertain of your future work opportunities, New Work Cornwall could help you discover new ways to access employment opportunities and support, and create tailored help specific to your needs, motivations and goals. Grants for Fishermen's Basic Training

The following organisations and charities have been able to provide funding for people wishing to complete courses with Seafood Cornwall Training. We are sure there will be other sources of funding available and will update this page as we hear about them, it is always worth contacting your local job centre or business link office to find out if you are eligible for any other support towards the cost of training.

Grants for Fishermen's Further Training (DfT)
Training Grants for Fishermen to complete >16.5m Skipper's Ticket and Certificates of Competency

100% grant funding is currently available for fishermen to attend training towards the 16.5m skippers ticket, HOWEVER we cannot confirm that this funding will be available indefinatley and we are working on a month by month basis to provide these courses free of charge to eligible fishermen. Seafish hope to be able to continue to provide these grants beyond May 2010 but this is not confirmed. We will keep you posted....

European Fisheries Fund

The UK European Fisheries Fund (EFF) was launched on 15 September 2008. There is £111m funding available for the UK of which there is just over £38 million for England. Cornwall has been allocated £8,178,141.
The programme opened to EFF project applications on 15 September 2008.

The Cornish Sardine Management Association is a group of Cornish fishermen and processors who came together in 2004 to agree common standards between themselves for catching, processing and marketing Cornish Sardines.

Duchy Fish Quota Co.


The Duchy Fish Quota Company was established in 2001 by members of the fishing industry who were extremely concerned at the trade in fish quota and the impact this is having on the Cornish fishing industry.
